They're not lookin' too good.
Everybody has seen the trailers for The Wolfman that most know is a reboot of the classic The Wolf Man (1941). Then there's Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Star Trek (2009), Sherlock Holmes (2009), Batman Begins (2005). One might even stretch the definition to movies created from different, already hugely popular media, then there's The Last Airbender, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Dragonball Evolution (2009) (not sure that anybody actually saw that one...), and don't get me started on ANYTHING from Marvel or DC comics.
Let's not forget the previous article which had the rumor about Spider-Man being rebooted after only being out for eight damn years. Also, classics like Vacation (1983), Escape from New York (1981), and even the sitcom Laverne & Shirley (1976), are in the works to be rebooted.
It seems that whenever one of these movies is resurrected, it usually comes with a grittier coat, more kick to the ass, sometimes a darker and more evil (or crazy) atmosphere. In a lot of ways, that's a good thing. Although, how far can you regurgitate old ideas to make blockbusters before the quality starts taking a nosedive? Are we that strapped for fresh ideas these days?
The remake is hardly new. Hell, The Wolfman was remade in the 60's, too. It justs seems you can't look at a theater in the last year without seeing a rebooted this, a remade that, or a re-imagined something else.
Perhaps the bible was actually talking about movies rising from the grave, taking on darker and grittier forms, but lacking in original creative soul to wander the earth and eat our fucking brains. Perhaps Hollywood is showing the first signs of Apocalypse. Better get yourself equipped, gentlemen.
